Riverview is a welcoming and friendly town of 20,000 people and growing, it has a close connection to nature, being sandwiched between the Petitcodiac River and Fundy Biosphere, a love for active living, and urban proximity to downtown Moncton within a few minutes.
Riverview is defined by its down-to-earth values of kindness, care, and respect. It is physically charming and alive with the genuine humanity that can only come from really knowing your neighbours.
The Town of Riverview is a special place to live, work, and raise a family. Settle in amongst friendly neighbours, the beauty of wild New Brunswick, and a commitment to active living. Crime is practically non-existent, and the town makes major investments in parks, walking, biking and ski trails, and recreational facilities.
All these factors combine to form a beautiful community in which to live, and as the town slogan champions: A Great Place to Grow!
The full list is too long, but here are just a few special things about Riverview:
“Riverview is a town with a casual, comfortable, and familiar warmth of spirit.”
Riverview is home to The World Famous Tidal Bore, a phenomenon in which the leading edge of an incoming tide forms a standing wave of water that travels upstream, against the current of a river or narrow bay. The tidal bore in Riverview is caused when the unparalleled tides in the Bay of Fundy begin to make their way up the historic Petitcodiac River. The Bay of Fundy is home to the highest tides in the world and over 100 billion tonnes of water comes in and out of the bay each day!
Twice daily, observers can watch the tidal bore as this incoming rush of water overtakes the outgoing tide in the formerly placid river. On average, the height of the bore ranges from 0.5 to 1 metre. What you might not know is that Riverview is hands down the best place to watch this incredible phenomenon, with multiple viewing locations along the extensive Riverfront Trail.
“If you’re looking for a town with more parks and trails than you can count, then look no further than the Town of Riverview.”
We all know how important it is to live an active lifestyle. The Town of Riverview is literally set up to encourage just that: it’s home to over 20 parks and playgrounds, accommodating a range of year-round activities for all ages and abilities. There are also 30 km of walking, running, and winter activity trails, and over 50 km of biking trails. Yes, ALL that in this little town!
“Observe the River’s world-renowned tidal bore twice daily, with the wave of the bore breathing new and exciting changes in the natural landscape of the riverbanks and marshes.”
You can’t visit Riverview without noticing the beautiful Riverfront Trail that stretches 5.2km along the town, with spectacular views of the Petitcodiac River. Cycle, run, or walk the Riverfront Trail to take in the sunset or observe wildlife such as migratory waterfowl on the marshlands. At night, enjoy views of the dancing lights from the City of Moncton directly across the River.
Mill Creek Nature Park brings visitors from all over the region to explore its trails and the magnificent Mill Creek Dam!
“The Mill Creek Nature Park is a flourishing 500+ acre destination to enjoy nature, play, and recreational sports.”
While achieving a sustainable balance between conserving the natural ecosystem and fostering sound economic development. The residents have embraced the park as a place to relax, learn and reconnect with the natural world. It includes numerous trails to choose from, including Fundy Biosphere Reserve Amazing Places destinations along the paths.
Perhaps one of Riverview’s best-known trails, the Dobson Trail attracts thousands of eager hikers looking for the ultimate adventure year after year! The Dobson Trail is a 58km section of the Trans Canada Trail that stretches from Riverview to the northern boundary of Fundy National Park, near Alma. Hikers on the trail get to enjoy their trek through soft and hardwood stands, past a beaver dam, views of a gorgeous lake and countless scenic lookouts including Prosser Brook Ridge, the new Kent Hills power-generating windmills, and the spectacular Hayward Pinnacle. All ages can enjoy the Dobson Trail, and while the trail is known for its challenging (and rewarding) length, many will only go as far as they’re comfortable and still enjoy gorgeous views and exercise.
Outdoor adventurers of all ages enjoy Winter Wonderland Park for its famous sliding hill, which includes a snowboard component, and an outdoor skating oval. There is also a pathway connecting directly to the Dobson Trail. And if you are really in the Winter Wonderland Spirit, you may even be able to catch a sleigh ride and a hot chocolate!
Don’t let the name fool you! While it might be called the Moncton Golf and Country Club, this beautiful 18-hole golf course is actually located in the heart of Riverview. The course is very walkable with exceptional conditions from tee to green, and some rewarding challenges along the way that every golfer will love.
Riverview’s local restaurants offer some of the best dining experiences around. Here are a few:
Five Bridges Bar & Grill, has an amazing selection from their famous burgers to delicious steak dinners and everything in between to make your mouth water. Not to mention great ambience and unbelievable service!
Homestead Restaurant, a local fixture in the community, creating old-fashioned home cooked food with healthy proportions—the way your grandmother did. And if you can, try and leave room for a decadent dessert, including favorites such as chocolate cake with boiled icing or apple pie.
Kwong’s Restaurant, arguably the best chinese food in Atlantic Canada. Always fresh and delicious, and served up by Tony, one of the nicest people you will meet.
Sushi Sapporo, dishing up some amazing sushi roll feasts!
Steve’s Diner, not only is it a cool 1950’s themed diner, but they also have incredible home cooked meals and an unbeatable breakfast selection.
Hungry yet? We thought so! Just remember after your meal to work off those calories with a beautiful walk along the Riverfront. But wait a second! Why not also drop into the Holy Whale Beer Garden located on your Riverfront walk, and enjoy the sunset and breathtaking views of the Tidal Bore while sipping a locally crafted brew on their patio?
Who said winter can’t be exciting! Every winter the Town of Riverview sparkles during the festive season with “Light Up Riverview,” involving a spectacular display of holiday lights that illuminate the entire Riverfront Trail. Residents and visitors alike are welcomed to experience the Riverfront while it glows below a sparkling forest of more than 40,000 colourful lights! It is a wonderous atmosphere for a winter walk, bike ride, or the simple enjoyment of a hot chocolate and the light show.
“Riverview is synonymous with small-town living, but access to the City of Moncton and its downtown core is literally a 5-minute drive across the Gunningsville Bridge.”
Or skip the car and either bike or walk to downtown Moncton in 15-30 minutes along the Riverfront Trail system that spans both sides of the Petitcodiac River. If you need to catch a flight, the Greater Moncton Romeo International Airport is a 15 minute drive.
The Town or Riverview embraces the importance of sustainability. Residents value the pristine environment, the ability to choose active transportation, and a rich future for their children.
